How can I calculate the percentage increase?

Finding the percentage of increase or decrease can be useful in a variety of situations for example, like determining the percentage by which your earnings was increased after you received an increase.

The calculator calculates by subtracting the initial value from the final.

(Final value – Starting value)

This result is then subdivided in the total value by beginning value. (The the absolute value of an amount refers to the distance it is from zero. For instance the absolute value for 4 is 4.)

(Final value – Starting value) / |Starting value|

The result is multiplied by 100.

Percentage increase = [ (Final value – Starting value) / |Starting value| ] * 100

If the value at the end is negative, there will be an increase in the value between the beginning value and the ending value.
